Chickens have a relatively short digestive tract and a fragile intestinal mucosal barrier. Under intensive farming conditions, they are more susceptible to attack by undesirable microorganisms than animals with long digestive tracts, leading to the occurrence of various diseases. 

The use of feed additives is one of the effective means of preventing and controlling intestinal diseases and improving the production performance of broilers and laying hens. Broiler's growth rate is fast, intensive production by the environment, the application of feed additives can improve the balance of intestinal flora, reduce the incidence of intestinal diseases and mortality, improve the weight of the pen, reduce the feed-to-meat ratio, and can reduce the chicken house ammonia, hydrogen sulfide and other harmful gas emissions, improve product quality.

The application of feed additives in laying hens, in addition to preventing and controlling diseases, improving production performance and feed remuneration, also has an improved effect on the quality of eggs. Studies have shown that adding feed additives to laying hens' diets can improve the Hutchinson unit of eggs, reduce the cholesterol content of eggs, and have the effect of improving the thickness of eggshells and reducing soft-shelled eggs.
